My Lightning moment
Shooting lightning could be really fun and rewarding at the same time a little scary. I had read about it in many other blogs and websites how to take a picture of a lightning bolt but I never thought I would actually capture one until I did.
One stormy night in Colorado Springs in 2012 I walked out my house braving the wind and rain carrying some essentials. I kind of knew the place and vantage points from where I could view the city which really helped. I set my camera up along side few other photographers who were in the same boat as I was; waiting for the moment.
After a few hours of waiting and drenching in the rain I was loosing my patience but I hated the thought of going home empty handed after spending the time and energy that I did. I was using a remote trigger to open and close the shutter and doing about 30 second exposures and there it was right smack in the middle of my frame; a huge one. I almost tripped on my tripod when it happened. Anyways, I ended up spending a few more hours up until 3 or 4 in the morning but this was the best of the night. After some minimal editing this one was a keeper and a prized possession.
